Sample questions for the Independent, Public or
Private Boarding School Interview:
1. What is your name, your parents name, etc.?
2.
Tell
me a bit about your family. Do you have any brothers or sisters?
3.
Why
are you interested in our school? Why do you want to come and study at our
school? What are your expectations?
4.
Why
do you want to come and study in Canada?
5. Where do you live, tell us about your room, where do you study, do
your homework?
6.
What
has happened recently in current events, that interests you?
7.
What
do you read outside of school? What is your favorite book, author?
8.
Tell
us more about what you do outside of school. What are your hobbies?
9.
What
do you like about your current school? What do you not like?
10.
What
is your favorite subject(s) at school and why?
11.
What
is your favorite sport (s)? Which sport (s) do you play and why? Which sporting
events do you like to watch and why?
12.
Tell
us about your school (s), which you have attended and what was your experience
there?
13.
Describe
us your best friend and why do you like him/her? What qualities do you like in
your friends and why? What do you usually like to do together? What do you like
to do in your free/spare time?
14.
Have
you been away from your parents and family for long periods of time? How did
you like it? What was difficult or easy in this experience?
15.
What
qualities do your friends like in you and why?
16.
Do
you have any questions for us? (prepare few questions and ask)
Advice:
1. Be polite.
2. Speak clearly; try not to use words and phrases parasites as
“like”, “hm” “you know what I mean”, etc.
3. Dress appropriately. Do not wear you pajamas.
4. Record your interview to analyze it after.
5. Have a comfortable chair; office chair, armchair or dining table
chair is ok. Do not sit or lay on a couch.
6. Have a phone handy in case the Skype is down.
7. Have the professional background. Have a clean desk. Position your
camera that you are about halfway visible.
8. Let everyone in the family know about the interview and ask them to
be quite as well as turn off TV, computers, phones to avoid distractions. If
someone rings the bell in your house, have a designated person to get the door.
9. If you do not understand the question, ask again or ask to type it.
10. Do not be shy, but be friendly and honest. If you really like the
school, then mention it.
11. If you bring a point up, prove it with a short sentence.
12. Clearly introduce yourself, thank them at the beginning and at the
end of the interview for the time and the opportunity.
13. If you do not know an answer, ask to repeat the question and it
will give you some time to think about the answer.
14. Use the interviewer’s name
when answering the question. Do not call them by their first name, but use
Mr, Ms. or Mrs. Only if they insist on
the first name, then use it.
HINT: yes, they already like
you and think that you are a GREAT candidate if the offered you the
interview.
